current obsession > drawing

In the last month to date, Lucy has drawn more than she has her entire life (3.6 years).  I am so exhilarated its finally happening! I thought there was no hope that my daughter would be an artist...then my hope lessened when I thought she disliked art all together... But now...!! I realized I don't care how good or bad she is, she is at least into it.  And just in case this is fluke, a short time fling, I am going to soak it up as much as I can.  This I could get used too...

Oh, in case you couldn't tell - That's Lucy (her first self portrait) and Theo on the left.  Mommy is on the right with Daddy in the corner.  We are all in the grass, by the water...with some really big belly buttons :) And those two circles on dad... she said it's a hat...

...So all those coloring books that we stocked up on with maybe one page scribbled in...are almost completely filled in..with both hands...although, she stays much more in the lines with her left.  Not sure what made the switch, but a little bit of me thinks she saw her very artistic cousin, penny drawing in tahoe, and somehow it clicked...or she wants to be just like her?  Her baby has since been named penny.

One of those child comments you will never forget...

Penny: "Lucy that drawing is really great!!"  Huge Smile.
(Her eyes looked over to me with a sort of.."you know I'm just saying that, right?!")

...later in her room alone with her mom...
Penny: "Mom, Lucy isn't a very good artist...I was just saying that to be nice!"

Well, whatever you did or said penny...I kind of give you credit for the push :)

replay > santo and johnny > sleepwalk

We are on day 2 of what looks like 10 days of forcasted rain.  Lucy's current obsession is making anyone play any one of her imaginary skits (ie. frozen, house, school, police officer, wizard of oz, etc...I even played our neighbor Joe as Lucy was their dog Annie) She tells you who you are, who she is - and go! Each act could last 20 seconds to 5 minutes before she re-does the same one with change of characters, or a complete sudden change of reenactments.  It's beginning to feel like a revolving record.  When I was staring out the window today playing Ana for the 500th time, this song came on.  I have found that I have memorized each of Lucy's skits - it's a bit like I'm sleep walking.....

current obsession > a nursery made from love

I was so head over heals for lucy's room that it was hard to wrap my head around a room perfect for theo.  What ended up is a little of each family members personality wrapped into one.  I got the bold white and gray geometric walls (not to mention my little corner nook for feeding), daddy got his love for vintage robots and star wars.  Lucy helped donate toys, and daily she leaves a little of her mess :)  I see a future for this room - add ons here and there...an evolution into his teen years.  I hope he loves it just as much as we do!

(we did find a sultry princess leia poster, and thought it would be funny to put on the ceiling over his crib... could you imagine a nursery with teen throb posters everywhere?! It got me to laugh!)

current obsession > t is for tornado

I finally pulled out some real reading material.  To my surprise, Lucy loves it.  We have been reading at night, taking breaks and picking up the following day.  I wasn't sure Lucy would remember or anticipate whats to happen next - but she does :)    Bonus: The letter of the week in preschool is T.  T is for Tornado.  We've been kind of obsessed.

I love this room. When Lucy leaves for preschool now - I find myself in here more than I'd like to admit.  Thankfully she loves it too!

current obession > her signed cast

She loves her new pink cast... We made it 2 full weeks with the purple cutie with only signs of a little stink.  It's been only one week with pinkie pie and we have painted lovely brown on it, jumped in the pool without it sealed, and now her favorite thing is to get it signed.  I'm pretty sure after this 90 degree week, the stink will return!  It's becoming a new member of the family... :)

Lucy to strangers on the street with dripping ice cream down her cast, "HI! Sign my cast please...!!!" and yes, we have some strangers who've signed it! No introduction needed.  My favorite is the david the mailman. (whom as taken a year now to warm up too - i think he finally realized he couldn't escape us)...

current obsession > favor girl

Artwork for Lucy's room has been way past due.  Maybe I was just waiting for the perfect piece?! I think this one suits her perfectly.

(My New Year's Resolution for 2015 was to get things hung on the walls.  Slowly but surely....)

current obsession > herve tullet 'mix it up'

Press Here was a favorite of ours prior to Christmas.  When I saw the color theme in this book, I knew I had to get it for my artistic niece, Annie.  I couldn't help myself at our recent library visit...had to snag one up for Lucy too.  It's been 1.5 weeks since we checked it out...and in a dreaded 1.5 weeks, we have to return it... I don't know who will be more upset - Lucy or me.  It's kinda the best book ever :)
